Day 21-Sentosa Island

Last day in Singapore

semi-overcast 33 °C

Caught the cable car across to Sentosa Is. Spent most of the day travelling over the small island by bus or cable car & discovered all the lovely beaches. Crossed the suspension bridge over to the 'southern most point of continental asia'!
Very tropical island, made into a 'fun' destination with several fun park rides & experiences, mixed with expensive resorts.
Back for an afternoon swim at the hotel.
Went out again after the rain to Clarke Quay for happy hour drinks & met an American couple who kept us company for a couple of hours before our last dinner in Singapore.
HOME TOMORROW!

Day 20-Rainy Singapore

rain 28 °C

Said goodbye to Lyn & Bill this morning, then hopped on the Hop-on-hop-off bus to complete the circuit.
Started to rain about 11.30 & rained most of the day.
Good day to do the Changi Prison Museum. Really well done & emotional at times, especially when able to bring up Grandpop Warner's details as a POW from Changi to the Thai/Burma Railway.
Went out again later afternoon to walk around the Raffles Hotel (most of it closed for restoration), Marina Bay (Merlion covered for cleaning!), & made our way to Clarke Quay for dinner. Lots of atmosphere with coloured lights, live music & plenty of restaurants, bars & clubs.

Wed-Travel day, with a midday flight to Singapore, arrival about 5.30pm.
First impressions of a very green, tropical city. Even our hotel is draped in vines & greenery. Quite spectacular!
After a swim in the pool, walked into Chinatown which is nearby, & had dinner.

Oasia Downtown Hotel

Thursday-Swim first thing, then breakfast in the local area. Had booked a free tour through Baba House, which is an example of ancestral home of a traditional Straits Chinese family. Really well restored by the University as original as possible, & we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

Then onto a floating village where local fishermen & their families live constantly on their boats. If the family have money, they send their kids to school on the mainland, otherwise the kids are not educated, and grow up on the floating village, along with pet dogs & cats.

Day 14- French Quarter Hanoi

sunny 29 °C

Today we explored more of the city, starting with another electric car drive through the French quarter. This area is the more upmarket area with expensive stores & restaurants & beautiful European style buildings.
Friday's, Saturday's & Sundays, the area around the city lake is made car free & they have night markets in the streets. The whole day seems to be family day, with lots of activities, music & families enjoying themselves. There were lots of folk games for people to participate in, including a tug of war which Kath & Paul contributed to.
An afternoon card game, then out to dinner & last chance shop in the night markets for Paul & Kath as they leave us for Singapore tomorrow .
